Lloyd E. "Jack" Frye served aboard USS ASTORIA CA-34 alongside his brother Edward J. "Eddy" Frye. Both brothers survived the Battle of Savo Island on the night of 8-9 August 1942. While Eddy was badly wounded and took many months to recover, Jack came through without a scratch.
